JJ Boulangerie, Paris Hotel

JJ Boulangerie, Paris Hotel, Breakfast (4/23/08)

Welcome to our Vegas exploration day! Our original plan was to make it down to the Stratosphere and try some of the truly scary rides that would cause my intestines to jump up through my throat and throttle my brain. But we overslept and for some reason decided to walk down to the Paris Hotel and have breakfast. Having breakfast at Paris is not a bad idea, but it was a much longer walk than we anticipated ... that desert air is misleading when you're estimating just how far you have to walkon an empty stomach!

And damn! There were a ton of people out on the strip jostling each other into traffic, stepping on each other's feet, and spilling three-foot long daiquiris on complete strangers. I know it's been five years since we last visited Sin City, but I don't remember it being this crowded.

So, we walked and walked and walked until we finally arrived at Paris where we expected to just breeze into one of their restaurants for breakfast.

Bwahaahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!

Who would have thought we needed a reservation at 10:30 in the morning? There was a line a mile long for the buffet ... it reminded both of us of a line queue at Walt Disney World ... and the wait for a table at the nice little bistro was upwards of 45 minutes. Turns out there was a convention or some such thing at Paris and all the attendees were hungry, too.

Jerks.

We eventually ended up at JJ's Boulangerie and had to restrain ourselves from ordering one of everything in the pastry case. JJ's is a fabulous little bakery that supposedly supplies baguettes and other baked goods for all the other restaurants at the Paris Hotel. They sell coffee and baked goods on one side of the establishment, and sandwiches, soups, and salads on the other side.

Our late breakfast consisted of one cheese danish, one cherry danish, one chocolate eclair, and two double lattes. Yum!!

All of our choices were fresh and tasty - and the combined sugar-caffeine buzz was just what we needed to fuel ourselves for the rest of the day ... or at least until our next meal.

Mmmmm, shared pastries!

Once we were on our way, we turned to take a picture of the "Eiffel tower" ... it was a lovely day and we thought our vantage point from across Las Vegas Boulevard was the perfect spot for a postcard shot.

Yeah, we actually took this picture!

I was just on the Dis and saw the update...

Nice work.

Thomas and I aren't huge buffet eaters, so we'd probably prefer the bakery. it looked yummy!

The picture of the "Eiffel Tower" is beautiful... ARe you sure you didn't have some help??? ;-)

Anyway, I am really enjoying these reviews -- Thanks.

Howdy Ms. H!

We're not big buffet eaters either, but a friend of ours on the cruise board mentioned that the buffet at Paris was worth trying.

We tried and we failed ... the lesson is: never try! LOL!!!

The baked goods were awesome - so fresh and tasty.

And yes, I really took that picture all by myself ... the only help I had was a double shot of caffeine in my latte!

Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Mmm...Paris. I hope there aren't conventions in December when I'm there.

Hi Heather! I hope there aren't any conventions to get in your way when you're there too!

Bendy you missed a bit

"A whole hour from now"

Did you get to ride the rides?

Bummer that you missed the Paris buffet. As far as buffets go, it's a thing of beauty. I had the best scrambled eggs with smoked salmon there!

Oh well...there's always next time!

AFEG ... it was about 3 hours between meals. So there! :-)

And no...we never did make it all the way down the strip to the Stratosphere. Something to do on the next trip I suppose. If you get there before we do be sure to let us know how your intestines handled the crazy rides!

jknepfle,

scrambled eggs with salmon sound really good right now ... mmmmmm!

Perhaps we will try again on another trip. Perhaps ... if I can get scotch with my eggs!

;-)

Bummer on the buffet and getting to the Stratosphere.

Bakery items look yummy!

Hey Deb! The good thing about Vegas is that you always have to leave something to try for the next visit. :-)

The pastry was divine!

And I love that picture of you and the hubby - it's great!

Yummy on the cheese pastry!

Have you ever had the pastry ring from Panera Bread? It has cheese, cherry and apple pastry in sections all around.

Jamie, I have never seen that at the Bread Company here in STL (that's what it's called here) but I will keep an eye out for it during future visits! It sounds yummy!
